The UK manufacturing industry is set to enter a new era of growth following the government’s announcement of a £4.5 billion funding package designed to revitalise key sectors, drive innovation, and generate thousands of high-quality jobs nationwide.
Targeted Support for Key Industries
Spanning a five-year period beginning in 2025, the funding will support eight strategic industries – including automotive, aerospace, clean energy, and life sciences. More than £2 billion has been earmarked for the development of zero-emission vehicles, while £975 million will support cutting-edge aerospace projects focused on energy efficiency and low-carbon aviation.
A further £960 million will fund the Green Industries Growth Accelerator to strengthen the UK’s clean energy manufacturing base, and £520 million is being directed towards life sciences to future-proof health resilience and drug manufacturing capacity.
Backing Small Businesses and Technology
To ensure smaller manufacturers benefit, the government will extend the Made Smarter Adoption programme to all regions by 2026. This initiative helps SMEs adopt advanced digital tools to boost productivity and lower emissions. Stephen Phipson, CEO of Make UK, welcomed the move, calling it a “transformational opportunity” for small and medium-sized manufacturers.

Despite recent pressures such as rising operating costs, a majority of industry leaders remain optimistic. According to the Make UK/PwC Executive Survey 2025, over 50% of manufacturing firms plan to increase investment this year, with 43% expecting productivity improvements due to the government’s long-term industrial strategy.
