Winner Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Contact Lens Optician to join a leading Optical and Hearing Care Company based in Bournemouth.

As a Contact Lens Optician you will trained and qualified to fit, and provide aftercare for, patients with contact lenses. You will assess whether contact lenses meet the needs of your patient, resolving clinical and tolerance issues, and remain responsible for clinical decisions and provide continuity of care for your patients.

You will have registered with the General Optical Council. You will need to be friendly, approachable, polite and helpful, comfortable working as part of a team and able to answer questions and queries utilising your excellent ophthalmic knowledge

The duties of the Contact Lens Optician will include:

  • Serve customers enthusiastically, booking appointments skilfully, demonstrating the highest levels of customer service and care, advising customers on frame and lens choice, with the ability to deal with customer queries and complaints, providing prompt, efficient and competent assistance to resolve customer issues
  • Fit and supply the most appropriate contact lenses considering each customer’s visual, lifestyle and vocational needs, giving advice on lens type, frames and styling
  • To provide aftercare for patients with contact lenses and resolve clinical and tolerance issues relating to contact lenses
  • Interpret optical prescriptions and advise and dispense low vision aids to those who are partially sighted as well as advising on and dispensing to children where appropriate
  • Take frame and facial measurements to ensure correct fit and positioning and advise customers when adjustments or repairs are required if unable to be fixed within the branch
  • Order lenses and check them on delivery to ensure they meet required specifications
  • Ensure the branch always optimises all sales opportunities by assisting and actively promoting new promotions to colleagues and customers, having good confident product knowledge
  • Assist the Branch Manager in the effective and successful running of the branch, whilst also supporting branch staff in all contact lens and dispensing areas, whilst co-operating fully with them to ensure all services are fully promoted, maximising profitability
  • Be commercially aware and make the most of all sales opportunities whilst working towards achieving Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), whilst utilising the time available, communicating effectively with customers and colleagues
  • To contribute to the provision and development of an efficient optometry service, whilst maintaining the reputation of the Company always
  • Assist with inductions and training of all new sales advisors to the branch
  • Complete administration tasks including clinical, general filing, maintain accurate patient records
  • Respect confidentiality of information regarding customers, staff and the Company in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and be familiar with, and always comply with, the Company’s policy relating to Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults
  • Be flexible as to locality as necessitated through emergencies, sickness or holidays
  • To assist or carry out any additional tasks associated with the main function (above) as required by line manager

Qualifications, training and experience required:

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
  • Competent computer skills
  • Registered with the GOC as a Dispensing Optician with a Contact Lens Speciality
  • Ensure compliance with the General Optical Council (GOC) Standards of Practice for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians and any other professional requirements needed
  • To have obtained the relevant qualifications in order to practice as a Contact Lens Optician within the UK

Salary circa £30,000
